Philippines National Heritage Month
May is the National Heritage Month or Filipino Heritage Month with its month-long festival of exhibits, performances, tours, processions, paradises and poetical jousts celebrating our historical landmarks and traditions.
The month of May was declared National Heritage month through Proclamation 439 in 2003 mandating the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to conserve and promote the nation’s cultural and historical heritage.
The event is in recognition of the need to create among the people a consciousness, respect, and pride for the legacies of Filipino cultural history, and love of country.
Every year, events organizers including the Filipino Heritage Festival, Inc. (FHFI) President Armita Rufino and Finance Officer Araceli Salas propose a set of cultural activities to make the Filipinos aware of the Philippine traditions, practices and other wonders.

2020, February 15. Battle of Manila, 75th Anniversary
75 YEARS OF THE BATTLE OF MANILA
The Battle of Manila was one of the most decisive vIctories of the Second World War. From February 3 until March 3, 1945, Allied Force from the United States of America and the Philippines engaged the occupying Japanese Forces in prolonged combat. This battle brought about incredible devastation to the capital, nearly flattening Manila while ending upwards of 100,000 civilian lives. Cornered Imperial Japanese Forces retaliated mercilessly - violent crimes such as rape and mutilation were inflicted upon hapless Filipino civilians. It was a horrifying event that turned the previously vibrant city - dubbed the Pearl of the Orient - into a dreadful landscape. Eventually the city was recaptured by the Americans, and Manila was liberated from Japanese occupation.
This issue honors the men, women, and children who perished during the Battle of Manila seventy-five years ago. The commemorative stamp features the Memorare statue by Peter de Guzrnan which stands at the Plazuela de Santa Isabel in Intramuros. Inscribed on it is a dedication by National Artist Nick Joaquin to the innocent lives lost, "We remember them, nor shall we ever forget”.

2020, February 6. Valentine's Day - "The Love We Deserve"
VALENTINE'S DAY - "THE LOVE WE DESERVE"
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) releases stamps featuring the digital art rendition of “Valentine’s Day 2020 – The Love We Deserve” special stamps using the popular character of the human heart that signify emotions, including love.
We see the familiar symbol of love everywhere — from eating heart-shaped chocolates to sending text messages to a special someone with the iconic heart of the popular “emoji” or symbols.
Entitled “The Love We Deserve”, the four heart-shaped designs show the values important to contemporary society, focusing on current issues. It presents the idea that love transcends romance, taking on the many other definitions of love with an open mindset.
Each of the four topics represents a creed: Love Nature, Love for Country, Love Knows No Gender, and Love Yourself. This issue deviates from the usual way Valentine’s Day stamps are depicted and is intended to touch on subjects the public - especially the youth - can both relate to and reflect on.
The four (4) heart-shaped stamp designs such as the environment themed “Love Nature” takes on the color green, with a background of a tree that symbolizes life; the nationalistic themed “Love of Country” where the color and design of the Philippine flag and map are reflected in the background while little doves fly around to symbolize peace and love; the “Love Knows No Gender” stamp theme indicates that Love has no sexuality, race, skin tone, color or gender and lastly; the stamp giving emphasis on “Loving Yourself”, inspiring people to have self-respect, a positive self-image, and unconditional self-acceptance. The magenta/purple inspired color illustrates a person holding one’s head high.
Considered as one of the most awaited Philatelic releases, this year’s Valentine’s Day stamp designs deviates from the usual romance theme but focused more on the universality of love.

MUNICIPALITY OF CONSOLACION – 100th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY 1920-2020
The centennial anniversary is being celebrated with the theme, "Consolacion Yesterday, Today, and Beyond: Fulfilling Dreams, Building Legacies".
The Municipality of Consolacion has a long history. It was previously a barrio of Mandaue called "kampiig" after the type of crabs found in the locale. Eventually, this small barrio grew, and its residents requested that it be made a municipality. The then Governor-General of Cebu granted this petition. As a gesture of gratitude and goodwill, Kampiig was renamed "Consolacion", after the Governor-General's daughter. This petition succeeded via the efforts of the townspeople. After a brief period of being brought back to the status of barrio in 1902-1903, Consolacion was re-established as a municipality in 1920 by Governor-General Burton Harrison,
The Sarok Festival in Consolacion, Cebu is a source of pride for the city. This lively festival is celebrated alongside the municipality's founding anniversary. It highlights the sarok, a woven hat made of bamboo and banana strips, made by farmers as protection from the harsh noonday sun. Another contribution to cultural heritage is the "Miligoy de Cebu", a dance which originated in Consolacion. The dance is presented during social gatherings in the poblacion, with pairs of dancers holding castanets while performing,
