Today, throughout the entire world, the Church proclaims once again the wondrous news of the first disciples: "Jesus is risen!" – "He is truly risen, as he said!" The ancient feast of Passover, the commemoration of the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery, reaches its completion with the resurrection of Jesus Christ who freed us from the slavery of sin and death, and opened the way for us to eternal life. When we let sin dominate our lives, we lose our way on the right path, and we go wandering around like lost sheep. Our Shepherd, God himself, came searching for us. In order to save us, he lowered Himself to the humiliation of the cross. Today we can proclaim: "The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep, and willingly died for his flock, alleluia!".

The artist} of the two paintings is Adam Piekarski, a young homeless Polish painter who frequents the showers that Pope Francis has opened near the colonnade of St. Peter’s so that all pilgrims entering the Basilica can come across this new service. To portray the Magi, the author wanted to be inspired by his companions of misfortune. Two are more or less recognizable, the third is not, since it represents them all. With this small initiative, Vatican philately wanted to make the Nativity of the Lord more concrete by promoting the redemption of these disadvantaged brothers and sisters of ours.
