This exhibit lifts a corner of the cloak of anonymity that covers the engravers of many British Empire stamps in the 1930s. Presented evidence shows that an engraving of King George VI’s head by Bohumil Heinz and previously described as unadopted, was used on stamps printed by De La Rue.

Privately Printed Postal Stationery Cards of Deutsch-Ostafrika and the German Colonies
The first issue in 1898 included ten scenes (four from Deutsch-Ostafrika) each supplied at the inland and the overseas rate. The 1902 series featured colourful oil paintings by Rudolf Hellgrewe. The eight cards (five from Deutsch-Ostafrika) in the final series issued in 1908 were based on photographs by Otto Haeckel.

West Indies & South American Mail Carried by “Great Western”
Great Western was sold to the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company in 1847 and sailed as a Main Line steamer. She then spent long periods in the Caribbean as a Branch steamer. In 1853 she transferred to the South American service and completed nine return voyages before being broken up.

The CEF Railway Troops were extremely adaptable and versatile. They laid 60 miles of track after the 1917 Vimy Ridge Battle had started. This is an invited exhibit from a USA judge.
All competitive exhibits will be judged and the results posted on the frames during the exhibition. The main awards presentation will also take place on 14th September 2019 at the Awards Ceremony at noon in the Executive Centre. The judges will be available to give feedback to exhibitors between 1.15pm and 3pm on 14th September 2019 at the exhibition. Exhibitors who want to receive feedback should reserve an appointment with the jurors in advance. Appointments can be booked at the Executive Centre from Tuesday 10th September 2019.
